I've always thought the motorways in the UK, when I lived there as a kid, were pretty magical. Especially at night when there's more lanes, and bigger brighter lights, etc. I'm not sure if anyone else feels the same way though.
Not magical, but I seem to recall that they were lighted. There was a hypnotic effect from the light poles, and in fact I remember being told to use them to keep track of speed/stopping distance. At night the strings of endless lights could indeed seem magical, I suppose. Maybe they removed them for the sake of wildlife--they were talking about doing that. It's been decades since I was there.
