The P word is in my job description, Gav! Anyway, I used it here to distinguish them from food insects. Not sure what kind of flies they are--they are as small as fruit flies (that's quarter inch mesh they are on there.)

A pest is just an animal smart enough to be able to eke out a living where and when we don't want it to *g*
They look like Stable Flies- biting, blood-sucking flies in the Muscidae family (hence their other name: Biting House Flies)
