Of all the carcasses I've seen (and I've seen quite a few), this beetle has never been in attendance. I ocassionally see Necrodes surinamensis, but not Necrophilia. I don't know if it's a climate thing or a population decline or what. And because I've never seen a live one, I can't comment on any pseudoparental behavior.
Amusingly, the genus name is printed several places in the standard fe textbook as "Necrophilia". Way to fail, spellcheck.
