I'm sicker than I've been in a long time. I missed two days of work and I'm going to try to go in and make a contribution (in work, not germs) out of pure Puritan Work Guilt. The vacation to Oregon with Dad and Andy is next week, and I feel like it would be really bad form to take a week of sick days then follow them with a week of vacation days. That's for when I'm quitting. JUST KIDDING.

...

I wrote that this morning. I don't know if just getting up off my bed and moving around made me feel a bit better or if I'm actually on the mend, but I'll take it. If my symptoms don't get appreciably better by tomorrow, I'll call the doctor and get some Cipro. Anything to avoid having to take 75 bathroom breaks in two airplanes and three airports.

The sick made me miss last nights' obligations. A few weeks ago the Friends of the Muddy River contacted me to do a special presentation at their annual meeting. I said, sure! When? They said some Tuesday or Thursday in the next few weeks, any better for you? Nope, I replied, just let me know. Then my workplace suddenly made tickets available to a staff-only screening of a movie that was shot there two summers ago. I dickered for a day or two, found out lots of friends were going and said, what the heck I'll take a ticket. Almost immediately the Friends of the Muddy contacted me to say the meeting date was picked, same night as the movie screening. What would you have me do? I feel like I would love to connect with the FOMW, since the River has been so important to me in the past decade; But I booked one thing first (sort of) and felt duty-bound to honor my obligation. As luck would have it, I spent the night sweating, clutching my stomach, and mincing to the bathroom.

That is all I will speak of the sick, unless it turns out to be stomach cancer or appendicitis or something else interesting.

Now back to the regular program.

Heavens to Betsy! You are sick, not goofing off! Now get back to bed and stop this guilt trip nonsense. The rats and stable flies are not going to take over your workplace because you're sick, and your co-workers will manage just fine.

Errg, I hope you feel better...

I saw a preview for that movie last week and I thought of you and wondered what you would think of it. It looks like it could be pretty dumb, but it takes place in Boston and at the zoo and well, I felt a little protective of the movie for some reason.
