First full day, some of San Juan

We woke up and looked around--nice enough beach, kinda built up though. Ours was the little pink hotel on the far left.

I always like to take a picture of the view out the hotel window. One of these guys was perched on our sill until I disturbed him.

But soon enough we went out to El Morro, an important fort at the far point of the city. My dad really liked it--lots of history, and even a lighthouse built into it. Apparently the Spanish colonists fought off attacks from the British and Dutch from this place.

These features--probably some kind of lookout post?--surround the fort. They are picturesque enough that they are on several designs of the Puerto Rico license plate.

An expansive field in front of the fort included this great egret, probably snacking on the ubiquitous anoles.

Also ubiquitous: CATS. Most with some orange on them, mostly sleeping.

This totem commemorates San Juan's 500 year anniversary.

This freaky-ass statue commemorates Eugenio MarĂa de Hostos.

The streets of Old San Juan are beautiful, even when the trash guys are rumbling along the sidewalk.

Lots of art everywhere. I don't even know what this is.

I was fascinated by the abandoned and decaying buildings. This one is starting to turn into a forest.

A little park featured whimsical sculptures. This one is "Gata Girafa."
