Five years ago today I posted this snapshot, an innocent view of an animal at feeding time. Lots of comments, and a follow-up video and photo also in the comments section.

If I recall correctly, this corn snake's name was "Colonel." Get it?

I know I shouldn't say this, but I'd let the snake starve. I prefer mice. Cuter. (Even though I know cute has nothing to do with who should live/who shouldn't.)

NOT watching the vid! (Unless you tell me the mouse jumped on the snake's head and ate it!)

The mouse was already dead, so it wasn't much of a threat to the snake. I don't suppose that telling you that house mice are destructive pests and invasive species while corn snakes are beneficial native predators would make you feel differently?

The video is suspenseful but anticlimactic, and without Ira Glass talking in the background it would almost be a still photo.

I know they are, it's not a logical thing with me. Mice are 4-legged, cute, furry. And they tap dance. ;-P
