Magic Nature and Swimming Dogs at Stony Brook Reservation

I took Jim and Charlie to Stony Brook Reservation last week. I found a section of the woods that had burned a couple months ago.

It's not as dramatic in this photo as it was in the woods, but the web of this bowl-and-doily spider was reflecting fragments of rainbows.

There were many lady's slipper orchids in the woods, but these three sisters were my favorite.

Pine pollen rested on the surface of Turtle Pond, pushed by wind into yellow slicks along the shore.

Jim, crashing through the pollen to swim for a stick.

Charlie kept trying to get at a log wedged in the supports of this dock. It was 18 inches or so over the surface of the water, which was over his head, but somehow he was able to propel his body out of the water to bite it!

Jim is the only Boston I've ever known that was a fan of water. Most of them have been highly intolerant of the cold wet stuff.

When the Australian bush regenerates after a fire--especially if there has been some rain to help it along--it's the most beautiful green you'll ever see.

It's great to see new green in a burnt-over area. And the pine pollen! I was walking beside a pond today, and it was pretty thick.
