Species of Least Concern Podcast

I'm still feeling my way through all the technology, but I think I just created the first episode of my new podcast!

It appears to be here: http://soundcloud.com/urbpan/solc-001

There are many things I would like to change (such as knowing the software better so that the intro/outro music I made would actually be there) but I'm happy to have one done. Let me know what you think.

No seriously HERE it is: http://soundcloud.com/urbpan/species-of-least-concern

um. okay. here: http://soundcloud.com/urbpan/speci
*massages temples* *gets drink of water (wait is that really water?)*

Forgive me, I'm still learning the software.
I would still very much like to know what you think about it!

I liked it! Worked as advertised, and I took a look at bugguide.net so I could assure my arachnophobe friend that brown recluses don't hang out in these parts (southern Ontario). Congrats on creating the podcast and putting it out there; I look forward to the next one.

Thanks so much! I just uploaded the version of the file with the intro music so I think I'll delete that first draft.

Are you gonna put it on iTunes?

This is good - packs a lot of info into a small space, no waffle or straying off topic, and - I think most importantly - deals informatively with stuff that a lot of non-wildlifers can instantly relate to. And I'm with you on the loose definition of 'bug', despite knowing perfectly well what a 'true bug' is.

I was looking forward to this and I wasn't disappointed.

That is my intention, once I figure out exactly how that is done.

Thanks very much!

Just listened and I like it! Not how I imagined your voice; kind of the opposite of seeing radio personalities for the first time and having them not look like how you imagined them from their voice.

[identity profile] urbpan.livejournal.com 2012-06-25 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad you like it! um...how did you imagine my voice?

Deeper, I think.

I'm actually a bit surprised by that too. I sound more like this in my own head:

lol at this

liked it!

I expected you to have a raging eastern Massachusetts accent. Next podcast I request you drop a few "r"s and broaden your "a"s.

Sincerely,
I hear toothaches (the most common misreading my LJ name gets)

Wicked pissah.

Did I come close to pronouncing it right?

[identity profile] iheartoothecae.livejournal.com 2012-06-28 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Better than I do! I always forget that the plural form has an s sound at the end instead of a k sound.

[identity profile] cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com 2012-06-29 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
you should cultivate a brahmin accent

I just got around to listening to it today, and I think it's great - you've got a nice voice for it, it's a nice length, and the tone is good. Kind of NPR-ish wiht the approachable science and dry humor.

My only contribution to the spider discussion would have been daddy longlegs /harvestmen /Opilones, which are the subject of a large number of urban myths, but are absolutely harmless. Or Argiope garden spiders - my parents are terrified of them because they are big enough that you can see the chelicerae.

[identity profile] urbpan.livejournal.com 2012-07-01 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the kind words! That means a lot to me coming from you.

Good points on the other arachnids. I'll probably cover harvestmen at another time (maybe someone will ask that question--actually a coworker asked that one about a year ago). I hadn't thought about argiope spiders--it's always amazing to me when people don't know what they are, they were a favorite creature from when I was very young.

Just noticed today that you seem to be involved in a podcast--is that still happening? I couldn't make it work, but that may be my own technical issues.

My husband does one. If you want you can ask him, I don't have a clue what he does to get it on iTunes. I'll link him. He liked your first one :)
