We have a dog which, had it been for other people's opinions, would have been put down a long time ago, too. Tasha was abused, no doubt about it, then she ran away and was a stray for a while, then a pound pup. She has a BB floating in her gut.
We often think how lucky she is to have us, but also, how lucky we are to have her. She is one of the most beautiful animals I have ever seen, and the day she trusted us enough to get up on the sofa with us, I felt like I'd won the lottery and the Nobel peace prize and the Pulitzer all rolled into one. I will do anything to avoid conflict between her and other beings, and I don't give a fig what other humans think.
