We visited Dogtown again yesterday (fourth or fifth time this year?), and it was spectacularly beautiful. Unfortunately, the new memory card for my camera malfunctioned and none of my pictures came out. Later on today [livejournal.com profile] cottonmanifesto will post her pictures, which will no doubt be spectacular.

My brother, [livejournal.com profile] brush_rat, today posted pictures of the first time I ever visited Dogtown. Check them out here. Unfortunately for me, the pictures aren't loading on my home computer. I'll have to wait to see them at work.

those are pretty cool! (your bro's version) seems less overgrown than the other dogtown photos of your all's - or am I imagining that?

not directly related to this entry but I just picked up my 2006 Cosmo Doogood's Urban Almanac (http://www.cosmosurbanalmanac.com) and thought I'd put in a plug in case you or any of your readers didn't already know about it. (Even though it does use "lay" when it should be "lie" on the back cover copy.)

Curses! Utne has scooped me again.

Well, maybe they're softening up the market for me, paving my way for my own Urban Wildlife Field Guide.

The CDUA is definitely not an urban wildlife field guide, so I'm confident that there's plenty of room in the market for both publications. Your guide sounds like the sort of thing they'd mention in the almanac, in fact.

The web page for the 2006 almanac mentions that it includes a field guide. :(

there are scattered entries that, if collected, would be the start of a field guide. for example, there's something about ginko, and another on raccoons. There are also very brief "nature note" blurbs here and there. But it is all intermixed with the calendar portion and the other almanac-y tidbits of info and not organized in a functional way other than by checking the index. That Utne order page is correct about the other stuff, but there is no true field guide section, unless I picked up a defective copy. Which I didn't. so there. I got mine at the Portland equivalent (http://newseasonsmarket.com/) of Bread & Circus, so I expect you'll be able to find one in the Boston area for closer examination.
