Alexis and Albee taking an afternoon nap together. We've been so tired since last weekend in New York. I blame the puppy a little, but other things have come up to prevent us from sleeping as much as we should. I was happy to see her grab some sleep out in the yard.

My dad came up to visit this weekend. He enjoyed a little time with Charlie and Albee.

The last time he was up I tried to find the Granite Railway and failed, so this time I made sure we had the right coordinates and we got there. This is described as the "First Commercial Railroad in the US" but there seems to be a lot of places competing for this honor. This place was where granite was cut from Quincy Quarries and sent by rail down to the Neponset River, where it was floated up to the site of the Bunker Hill Monument.

Then we went up to the Quarries themselves--a few months ago we had an Urban Nature Walk up there, but this time we chose a less strenuous route and still saw a good amount of the area.

We ate lunch at the Jamess Gate and then for some reason ended up at the Bikes not Bombs open house. I'm all for a Car-Free Emerald Necklace but I'm skeptical it will ever happen.

They had a DeeJay spinning tunes in the way that that happens these days.

And a station where you could make a bicycle-powered smoothie.

My day was rounded out by a sweat bee flying into my head. I picked it up and held it until it flew away. These bees can sting but their sting is very mild (this one did not sting me).
