The meme potential of prairie dogs has been only briefly explored.

Hey look! It's my friend Lily who happens to be an umbrella cockatoo! I went over to say hi to her and she hurriedly (really) stuck her head in this paper bag. She seemed eager to show me the costume she made for herself.

Very pretty, Lily!

Picture is (mostly) unrelated. Here's one of our interns, tired but triumphant after helping vanquish the troublesome root ball of a shrub along the fence line of the new exhibit.

what an adorable bird!

That prarie dog is awesome. Is that a rock or his nuts? Are they related to the woodchucks we get everywhere around here?

I didn't notice that rock before! Sciurimorph rodents (squirrels) tend to have giant testicles, but I think that's a rock. Prairie dogs are related to woodchucks in that they're both in the burrowing squirrel group Marmotini. A marmotini is also a hipster mixed drink made from melon vodka and ground up woodchucks served in a martini glass.
