Recently I got a check from my car insurance company, a full refund for the last online payment I had made. Today I called to see what was up. It turns out that (after being late with a previous payment) they had canceled my policy a while back. I made arrangements to leave work early and get it all taken care of. That last sentence seems so simple, and yet all day long I felt like throwing up. Money/bureaucracy/paperwork type issues cause me amazing amounts of anxiety. The whole thing could have been avoided if I'd been on top of things literally months ago, noticed a simple mistake and owned it and gotten on with life. Instead I spent hours today wishing I was dead (but knowing that I had to "man up" and deal with my own stupidity).

Immediately after getting it dealt with I felt so amazing. Now I feel even better, having finished a Blue Hill Comet Tail.

I hate that gut sinking I fucked up feeling. I'm glad you got it taken care of before anything really bad happened.

A bit of commiseration: i fucked up my continuing education credits for my law license for 2012 and didn't realize until two months after they were due. It took some math and begging forgiveness, but all is now well. I'm usually so on top of my shit that having the biggest piece of bureaucracy in my life messed up was a real downer.

Anxiety sucks :C I tend to freeze up terribly over htose sorts of things to. Good on you on getting it taken care of instead of, like I would do, trying desperatly to ignore it for a few days.

That said, dont' fret over the past, jsut take steps to make sure it doesnt' happen again :) Even if it's something as simple as picking a 'billl day' each month, or takign a few minutes every monday to have a look at the bills, or what have you. OR if you have a lot of budget issues in general.. ther'es some fantastic software called "you need a budget" that a lot of people I know have loved. No idea if it's the kind of thing you need, but I figured I'd spread the word.

I've had things like that happen to me, and I can totally empathize with the wanting to throw up. That's usually my reaction as well. Glad it turned out OK!

I'm all about celebrating every victory. Cheers! (And may you not find yourself in any such tangles any time soon or ever again.)

Oh I desperately ignored it for a good long while. :(

I will look into budgeting. I was forced to pay all my car insurance for the year ahead of time, so that's done anyway.

Ah, car aggravation day for you too.

Wishing I was dead is my escapism of choice.

Looks like you dodged a bullet there, with no accident and no getting pulled over during your uninsured time. Congratulations!

Try hypnosis. One time should work. It's amazing! I'm not kidding. You know that you have a bodily reaction to these things and it has to do with wiring not with reality so just get it rewired.

Even though you felt sick you got through it but it would be easier if you could simply skip all that.

If hypnosis is not something you feel comfortable with, you could try relaxation along with visualizing alternate behaviour.

I know it sounds dumb but after I had a run in with an abusive ex I could barely leave my home without having a panic attack even after there was no reason to believe there was any threat.

So I started writing scenarios where I got the best of him, avoided him and/or responded without being afraid. I also got myself a cell phone and when I think someone is following me I pretend I am talking on it, although last week I actually called my daughter. It turned out it was my neighbour and I didn't recognize him because he was all bundled up because of the cold. Still, I got through it.

Dead people have no problems.

Yes, we both were in serious jeopardy for a while there--super lucky we weren't pulled over.

It'll be interesting to see what my new doctor says.

I wonder if hypnosis would work on me--I'm super skeptical but I'm also really really suggestible.

I was told that I am more hypnotizable than a chicken, which is very hypnotizable apparently...

My sister who was gestalt therapist and psycho messed me up totally with "suggestions". I have trust issues. I haven't had a good therapist since I lived in Ottawa, so now I just use my own visualizations.

Money stuff is not a problem and I know it is for lots of people. (I'm not talking about real poverty, but the rest of it...) Working as a vault cashier you start to see money and accounting as just moving blocks around to maintain a balance, not a reflection of real value, life or self worth AT ALL.

You aren't afraid of dogs and I am super afraid of dogs but I am working on it with education, experience and reframing my memories. So you can deal with bookkeeping aversion for sure!

I was thinking during yesterday's panic how some people are organized and not afraid of money and how great that is. I'm not afraid of dogs or spiders--how valuable is THAT to society (not very)?

Don't beat yourself up so much over the money stuff ... I don't think there are many people out there that have all their budget s**t together 100% of the time. Also, for me anyway, the dread of dealing with something is almost always worse than the actual thing itself. A lesson that I keep learning, but seem unable to remember!

P.S., your lack of dog/spider fear has given us many a wonderful photo, so YES, very valuable!

I don't know, your pictures make me smile. I even think about what it would be like to have a dog/friend.

How about a spread sheet making someone smile? Naw, not so much.

Thanks very much, and yes, the dread is always so much worse. That at least I've learned, and there are certain situations where I know enough to march in and get it over with ASAP. Not all, alas.
