Alexis and I went to Forest Hills Cemetery last week. It's a large beautiful graveyard with public art and grand old trees; also, you are allowed to bring dogs there, so we did.

Of course I was immediately drawn to the lichen growing on the stones.

It was a cloudy gloomy day, I think you can get that from these pictures.

Some of the memorials are works of art.

These white pines must be some of the tallest in Boston.

This wonderful eagle sculpture is a military man's memorial.

This low flat memorial is in use as a feeding platform by gray squirrels.

These are some newer stones--the graveyard is still in use and adding new occupants.

We emerged next to a neighborhood--we actually considered buying that yellow house before we discovered Contentment Cottage.

Wildlife was quietly active overhead.

If we'd bought that yellow house this would have been our regular dogwalk path, a patch of woods owned by the cemetery.

A convenient break in the fence is our route back to the neighborhood.
