It took about 20 tries to get a good one.

My aunt Donna and her husband Greg were unbelievably hospitable this week.

After being told by my father some time ago that he might be arriving to visit, we then gave them less than 24 hours notice that, yes indeed, we will be visiting, and needing a place to sleep. "We" meaning my father, my brother, his two children and myself. Donna and Greg graciously provided comfortable places to sleep for us all, and plenty of food and refreshments. (Greg, if you're reading, I'll definitely take you up on your offer of Chivas next time.)

It was exciting to see relatives that I hadn't seen in over a decade. I took a lot of pictures, but when I looked at them later, they turned out to be mostly pictures of Jeb, the Jack Russell Terrier, and Donna's two horses, Romeo and Noah. I'll post those pictures soon--they are in photoshop limbo.

I gave out my livejournal address, so that my relatives could read and see what I've been up to, and get as caught up as the 50 or so people that I've never met who read this thing. Almost immediately, I began to regret my posting of certain narrow, urban opinions and thoughts--surely I can't have publicly suggested that people who drive cars are somehow unpatriotic.
Of course I did, and I'll have to own that bit of reactionary signage. It sure is easy to make statements like that when you live in a city connected by subways and bus routes.

I'm semi-comfortable being an oddball, but I hate to think that I'm alienating people I love.
