life update
Nov. 10th, 2005 10:21 amOne of my lj friends, who is also a real life friend, and I had an email conversation where we discussed how lj helps us keep in touch. Probably Rich and I would have lost touch with each other completely if not for the journals. We both appreciate reading things about one another's lives on our friends' lists, even though we have to plough through tons of quizzes and memes (I'm obviously as guilty as anyone of posting nonsense.)
So in the interest of keeping family and friends up to date on my life, here goes:

The wife and I (if you know me, you know her name) will be celebrating our second anniversary in February, in the in-law's new house--still being built--in Antigua. We still live in Brookline, with her daughter (part-time), who just turned 14. We have two dogs, a cat, and three guinea pigs.
I'm taking a class in Nature Writing which, if I pass, will complete my BFA, which I started working on in 1987. I still work on my zines, and put out about one a year. I also have been leading urban nature walks, which bring me great joy. I'm considering continuing my education in order to receive a science degree, but I haven't decided yet.
My father is healthy, and into his 43rd year of teaching. He doesn't plan on retiring, until his health physically prevents him from working. He travels frequently.
My mother is dying of Alzheimer's disease, which we now know she has been suffering from for over 20 years. She's in a nursing home where she is kept comfortable, but cannot walk or talk or recognize loved ones. My father visits her almost every day.
My brother works like a demon as a freelance cartoonist, columnist, videographer, and video editor. His two children are healthy and beautiful.
I often complain about my job as a wildlife caretaker at a wildlife sanctuary, but it's the best job I've ever had. I take care of animals and talk to the visiting public about natural history, animals and stuff.
My wife and I are looking forward to five years from now when we will move to...we don't know where. Somewhere where I'll never shovel snow again, or wear two pairs of socks at once. Maybe the Santa Cruz, California area. We're still shopping around for a new location.
We're homebodies who enjoy walking around city parks with our dogs and staying home and watching movies. That should catch you up.
