urbpan: (Me and Charlie in the Arnold Arboretum)

We went to Cutler Park in Needham, Mass. on Sunday. It's the "largest remaining fresh water marsh on the middle Charles." That's right, a big ol' swamp, just outside of Boston, and we went after a couple days of solid rainy weather. It actually sprinkled on us a bit, but waited to pour until after we were done slogging hiking. This little building is peeking out of some of the tallest garlic mustard I've ever seen.

Yet another improvised boardwalk.

Disgusting substance of the day: discarded tissues that I had to pick up, dropped near the Bird Hill exhibit.

On this day in 365 Urban Species: Black-crowned Night-heron. I have seen exactly one of these birds so far this year. [livejournal.com profile] bellelvsbeast recently had an entertaining (from my point of view) urban encounter with them recently. (sorry it's friend's protected--maybe she'll post a version that's okay for everyone to see?)
