Nostalgia

For whatever reason, I'm going through old journal entries. You know, I used to write a lot more. I even apologized for posting photographs. I've been on livejournal for six years, and I've recently considered jumping ship, but I'll stick around for a bit--call it continuity, call it inertia. Shall I take you with me on my trip to my past?

October 7th 2003 (I didn't post daily for the first few years): This post is my first public musings that led to the creation of Urban Nature Walk. I had been hired by an Adult Ed school to lead a nature walk in Boston. The price of signing up was forty bucks, which seems outrageous to me now. People seem to gladly pay about 20 bucks to hear me talk about mushrooms, but 40? Urban Nature Walks are free, on the off chance that I do them.

October 5th 2004: I grudgingly post pictures of the animals at my work. It's a bit of a hit.

Octobber 3rd 2005: One of three posts on this day (making up for lost time). Pictures of very cute livestock animals at work. Also: a treefrog, and a trip to Boston Nature Center.

October 3rd 2006: This was the year I did the 365 Urban Species project. Today was Boston Ivy, a deciduous climber that confused me for years. Also: an apology for implying that Texas was riddled with cockroaches.

October 3rd 2007: A kind of cool cell phone picture of the oldest building at the zoo.

October 3rd 2008: A comment about the fact that real live entomologists seem to be reading my silly journal, as well as people who want to know what the big red spider is and will it hurt their cat?

It would seem strange not to mention that eleven years ago today I got married for the first time. Fortunately, Alexis posted a picture of it a little while ago (in a post about her daughter, who is now old enough to legally join the navy if she wanted, not that I'm suggesting anything ;))

We took the dogs to Hammond Pond Reservation in Newton today. We've lived near here for years and this was our first visit. It was pouring rain, which made us a little uncomfortable, but was great for the mushrooms.
