3:00 snapshot #1210, 1211, 1212, 1213, 1214, 1215, 1216: vacation snaps

I'll be darned if I can remember where this is (a short ways from Rancho Palos Verdes) but by gum there was no passing by it without taking a picture. Thank god it was snapshot time too! Otherwise these would be a string of pictures of my brother my father and I in bars and in cars.

Visiting LJ friends #02

Last year this appeared.

It's an interview with Fiona Apple where among other things she admits to reading a blog on livejournal about a couple who live in Boston and foster pit bulls, and she sent the bloggers a book that they said they wanted. One of you nice people brought it to my attention and I made a post basically saying thanks for the book Fiona, assuming Alexis and I are the couple you mean. I was skeptical that we were, but open to the possibility. (If she did send me a book either I assumed that I had ordered it and forgotten, or it went to the wrong address [I used to have a mailbox address in my profile info])

Flash forward to last month when I posted that I was headed to Los Angeles and do any of my LJ Friends live there? Exactly none of you commented, so I forgot about it. Until Fiona sent me an email saying that she'd like to meet up, and that she'd get me free tickets to a show in exchange for an Urban Nature Walk. I figured that it was some LJ friend or IRL friend that reads my journal, playing a trick on me. I thought it through and couldn't figure out the joke. So I wrote back saying that I'd love to meet up, but that I was worried that someone was putting me on.

She wrote back and included pics of herself with her pit bull (Janet, who died in December), and saying very nice things about Alexis and I. So, not a prank, apparently. She arranged for us to get free tickets to a comedy show on Monday and a music show (at which she would guest-sing) on Thursday. I told my brother and father that someone who reads my blog and works at this theater got us tickets, and that we would meet her after the show on Thursday. She actually made an offer to meet up another time but we couldn't work the scheduling. Long story short (too late!) we saw a great comedy show (Jeff Garlin interviewing Aziz Ansari) and a REALLY great music show (The Watkins Family Hour) and hung out with Fiona for a little while after.





She's very nice and generous and shy, and I'm friends-locking this post out of respect for her privacy, although she said it wasn't necessary. I can share this with the two or three hundred of you that are lj friends, but it doesn't seem right to broadcast this to everyone willy nilly. I will probably send her a copy of this post, too, since she doesn't have an LJ account (that I know of) and can't read it.
