I just rode a mountain bike 25 miles and boy is my taint in a lot of pain. About a mile in the Gilmour Ride my back tire started to look like asymmetrical, like it might swell out of the rim and explode (I've been there). One of my riding buddies, Sarah, had a spare bike so we all went back and I got on it. It was a little more comfortable than mine, but it was a full on mountain bike with big knobby tires that are great for trail riding but make you work extra hard on the road compared to smooth tires.

I rode lead for about half the ride, then started to slow down. My partners had to stop twice to let me catch up. We were almost dead last (a friend riding the 50 mile course took that honor) but there was still food and festivities back at the barn. I don't remember a time when I've been so tired after a bike ride. I'm still barely able to walk and I'm crazy lightheaded. We took a picture of all the zoo folks, lingered a bit, and went in and got my free massage (I think that's the main reason I participate).

I raised 305 dollars with your help, and that figure seemed to impress the organizers, and the zoo president. Jonathan Gilmour sure has a lot of friends even though he's not with us any more, and I am so thankful for them for this event that helps us all become better zookeepers and better conservationists.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to waddle the dogs.

Last Sunday I led an Urban Nature Walk in the Riverway. As it turned out, 2 Livejournal friends (who I'd never met before) came along! We went to the Studios Without Walls outdoor art exhibit. I was frankly disappointed with the quality of the art this time around, but this piece was pretty good.

After the Urban Nature Walk I went up to Mission Hill, and somehow ended up with a flat tire.

Skipping to Thursday, hey it looks like Jeff Corwin's got a new thing at the zoo!
