Artist Recommendation

Out of nowhere, my stepdaughter asks me "Do you know Ursula Vernon?"
"No, who's that?"
"She does comics."

A little googling later and there it is. An ad for I Can't Believe It's Not Echidna Milk

She's on LJ too, naturally.

mmm, echidna milk

years ago i went to the san diego zoo. in the children's sub-zoo, they had an echidna with a sign that said:

I AM
*NOT*
A PORCUPINE!

there have been days when i've felt like i should pin that sign on myself. :)

Many pink-cockadeds are brought unneccessarily to wildlife rehabilitators by well-meaning individuals who find the small birds lying in an untidy heap at the base of the poppy, and assume they've been injured. Not so! They've simply gotten too intoxicated and fallen off the flower. If you are in doubt as to whether the woodpecker is injured or not, poke it gently with your finger or a small stick. If the woodpecker snores, or begins giggling uncontrollably, it's fine. Leave it alone, or if neccessary, offer to call it a cab. After the poppy season is over for the year, pink-cockadeds will lurk around the yard looking hung-over. Leave out a shallow dish of black coffee for several weeks to allow this majestic species time to detox, and then they will wing their way south to Tijuana, there to disport themselves until the poppies bloom again.

Heee. If I had just accidentally stumbled across that website, I'd be thinking, "Urbpan would really like this."

Cool.

Ah, the wonderful and unique Ursula Vernon! I have been a fan of her art, and more especially, her wonderful ramblings and outlook on life, for a good eight years or so. She is an artist worth watching if only to brighten your day with some very odd comment about the real world!
