How can a video game system be worth 600 dollars? Does it come with its own dead goat? And how come I didn't know that a dead goat was being used as part of a promotion until I read about it in a comic strip?
We do need a new dvd player...glorified or not. And it's imperative that we get GTA4 when it comes out. But 600 dollars?! Even at 18 bucks a month that seems steep.
I'll probably end up doing what I did for the PS2. Wait, and wait and wait and listen to all the other kids laugh and talk excitedly to each other about all the cool games they've been playing on it, and bide my time some more.. And then like six years down the road on the eve of the next gen's launch I'll pick one up for like a hundred bucks and all the best games for like 20 bucks each.
But then again, after the PS3 and the PSP pretty much bombing, I have to wonder how much longer Sony's gaming division will even be around.
The Playstation 3 actually has one of the most powerful processing systems on the market today (my hubby is using it in some of his CE research). Not that I'm making excuses for spending $600 to play games. Or kill goats.
That's more or less what we did with the ps2. We have the cheap slim version, and the dvd player doesn't work any more. It would be nice if GTA4 came out for the ps2, but I doubt it will.
Computer Engineering - all I know is that he is developing algorithms that capitalize on some special aspect of the architecture of the chip used in Sony Playstations.
From what I've been hearing, the PS3 is gathering dust in a lot of peoples' homes, which makes me sad, as a fan of the system in the past. My boyfriend's son, Ethan, won an XBox 360 through a school fund raiser selling magazines (livejournal did most of the work!), so we didn't have to pay for that. I'm seriously considering a Wii just because it's so surprisingly affordable.
That's old news...:P I remember when I heard about it, I was so irritated...that is just horrible...:( And I don't think it's worth the money. Dan wants to get one, but he's waiting for the price to go down. I did laugh when I read that comic, but only because the name of the system cracks me up and the fact that they referenced it. I love when Get Fuzzy references real stuff...;)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets my news from Get Fuzzy. I had the same reaction.
I have a strict rule about not spending money on technology, at least not until it's many years out of date, since cutting-edge stuff is way too expensive and tends to be buggy. I spend enough time in front of the goddamn computer as it is, so I eschew games almost entirely. and recently I seem to be burning out on Simpsons reruns, so I may have to get rid of the TV as well...!
