Self portrait with 50 pound sack.

Disgusting substance of the day: Mouse blood that squirted out when I was mincing up mouse meat and hit the heart by mistake.

On this day in 365 Urban Species: Common milkweed. Which is in bloom right now, and conspicuous everywhere I go!

the journal usually has some pretty bizarre, and not terribly work safe pictures, but well, sometimes, it has some very intriguing stuff. i reccy the occasional look-see. lots of animals recently: owls, crows drinking beer, pink dolphins... a donkey sheltering a coyote! you will also see things like pink hello kitty darth vader. not responsible for brain aneurisms/etc ;)

Who gets minced mouse meat?

"What did you do today, honey?"

"Oh, you know, the usual. Minced up some mouse meat, got squirted on a little."

That just doesn't happen when you work in a library like me. I kinda wish it did!

It was for the wood turtle.

Those are pretty horrible. Nice photo work on the penguin, though.

yeah, they're off the wall. i should point out it's not my journal, or work. i believe the stuff is just randomly found and displayed for all to see.

every now and then, there's an image really worth pondering, so i go back every few weeks. it's mostly free of "lol" stuff too, all the better, just often, really good pictures (artistic/light) is what i seek. neat stuff.

Is that part of its regular diet?

Yep. Our vet said our land turtles (box and wood) should get about 60% animal-based food, most of the rest should be greens and green vegetables, and a small amount of fruit. His favorite food is earthworms, but he enjoys mouse meat as well. He also likes corn on the cob (!) which I sometimes give him as a treat.

Yeah, when I worked at the VLM I think the land turtles (box turtles, mostly) got the animal part of their diet from dog food. I know they love earthworms!

We give them dog food sometimes, too. We have mice aplenty--and they're free--dog food is 75 cents a can!

I think they gave them moistened kibble. They bought a lot of it for all of the omnivores. I didn't actually get to make the diets, I just took the animals out and showed them to the kiddies. I am not sure how I'd feel about mincing mouse meat. I think I could do it, but I'd probably be a little grossed out initially.

Wow! I need to learn to read better the first time around. I thought you said you were mincing MOOSE meat and I was wondering why the hell you were cutting up a moose.
