I took Jim to a Boston Derby Dames bout last night. Jim actually belongs to my good friend, dogsitter, and drinkin' buddy Alex ([livejournal.com profile] belen1974), who is also a scorekeeper. I watched the bout while Jim slept. It was the Comonaughties versus the Wicked Pissahs. I chose to root for the Pissahs, for a couple reasons: their team name (derived from a typical New Englander's accented evaluation of how good something is) as well as their symbol. I can't seem to find a large version of it, but it pictures a gull entangled in a six-pack holder. I wholeheartedly support the use of local urban wildlife in sports team iconography. Their mascot, pictured above leading the pack, is "Sully tha Gully.

In between game periods, Alex took Jim outside to socialize and pee and stuff. "

The gameplay was fast-paced and full-contact. One player went head-first into the bleachers and left on a stretcher. (I've since learned that she's okay.)

At one point I heard someone call my name. It was [livejournal.com profile] mandy_moon, who wasn't sure she recognized me until she saw the tiny dog I was carrying. We discussed lj, and how we can't post about the interesting things at our workplaces (she works with lab monkeys) and I announced I would post a picture of her and [livejournal.com profile] dosboof.

After the game (the Pissahs clobbered them) everyone went down to the floor to mix and socialize. The head ref brought his dog, a pitbull dressed as a ref.

Jim and the "Rufferee," whose name I believe is Vadar, got along great.

Finally, Alex and Jim posed for novelty photos.
