Cats did not evolve from monkeys

I don't know why Bucky thinks that evolutionary theory dictates that he's descended from monkeys (he does have a history of misunderstanding things) but he really won't be happy to learn that he and Satchel have a common ancestor only 50 million years back.

You'd be surprised how many people seem to equate Evolution with "a monkey was my great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather". I'm tired of having to point out to Darwin's mistakes that the question "If humans are descended from apes, why are there still apes?" is a] wrong and b]irritatingly anthro-centric...

That'll learn you! This isn't ask Jeeves, it's my blog! Cats evolved from slightly less cat-like carnivores, probably similar to mustelids like ferrets.
