Canada does weird stuff. It was almost impossible to get in the country a hundred years ago if you weren't "white" (that doesn't include former black slaves who for some reason we were really anxious to help, I guess because we always welcome dispatriots from the U.S. even though the U.S. didn't consider them patriots to begin with...
the pit bull thing, i think really we would just like to ban a-holes from getting and abusing muscle dogs but we haven't figured out how to do it...
Remember when Dobermen Pincers were the fad for a=holes?
One thing tho. lots of refugees are scared shitless, and i mean literally on sight shit-less when they see certain dogs that were favoured by the oppressors and torturers they escaped, not to say this is a reason to ban the dogs but maybe if there was some sensitivity to the fact that some people for no RATIONAL reason are afraid of certain kinds of dogs, the issue would not have become such a big deal that some sort of law was made.
We have a large refugee population in Toronto.
My friend used to breed Bull Mastids (sp?) and she had a sign on the door that said, "Never mind the dog, beware the owner!" She and her a-hole divorced later... he used to yell at people who would cross to the other side of the street to avoid having to pass him and his dogs when he walked them... real bright. Some people don't like dogs period and would like to have none of them in the city at all regardless of the breed.
