Alexis, Alex and I took the dogs to Forest Hills Cemetery yesterday, to take advantage of the fantastic fall weather.

Despite how dry and sunny it's been, there were some mushrooms out.

Including this darling little hen of the woods growing from a buried stump, and surrounded by cinquefoil.

And of course, there's lichen on the stones year round. Two species duke it out for territory here.

And in Forest HIlls, many of the stones themselves are worth appreciating.

These ferns are in very low relief, with the background rough and the subject highly polished.

In one of the locked mausolea, a damaged stained glass window.

Forest Hills is a remarkable place also, because it serves as a sculpture garden as well as a park and cemetery.
Just what is in there that she's photographing?

Oh, it's Charlie!

Nice view in there. ("Sunflower House" Jim Coates, 2006)

This one scared us from a long ways off. We still went up to see it.

There were five trees in a row wearing screen nightshirts. Maggie didn't seem to notice.
("Nightshirts" Leslie Wilcox, 2002)

It was hard for art to compete with the sky and the sugar maples, though.

See you next time!
