I like something about winter:

One of the things I really love about winter is walking on frozen bodies of water. You get a whole new viewpoint, standing in a place that was impossible to get to a few weeks before. Today I took Charlie to Dane Park in Brookline, and the little marshy area I call Deer Tick Swamp was totally iced over. I was able to walk over to a long dead tree and see the undisturbed coating of British soldier lichen growing on it. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera, so all you get is this awful cellphone pic, but now I know they're there, I'll return. Alexis thinks they may be the closest British soldiers to the center of the city. Maybe I'll have a contest.

Here's a link to our first visit to Dane Park--including some British soldiers.

LOL! It's like you plucked this out of my brain. This is a big favorite of mine as well.

It's almost like you're getting away with something by being somewhere you can't be any other time of year. I took my dogs for a walk around the island in Maine on the ice. They had a blast running around on their long leashes. :)

I'm looking forward to the movie Urbpanworld: Rise of the Lichens.

I love that, too - although I haven't actually been brave enough to venture out onto the ice. I guess having dogs makes a person more adventurous! My kitties don't require me to take them on walkies, so I usually stay inside unless I just have to go out. I've noticed ponds and pools and creeks I'd never seen before because now the underbrush has died back and there's ice on the ground. After living in the desert for 10 years, it's kind of overwhelming how much water there is out here. I love it! But I need Wellies!
