Muddy River 04/08/09, 5:30 p.m.

Charlie is limping badly for some unknown reason, so I took the dogs on a different part of the Muddy for a shorter walk. We call this the "hot springs loop" because we discovered a wastewater outflow into it during a brutally cold winter when much of the Muddy froze. Ducks congregated around the relatively warm water while parts of the river we had never seen frozen before were coated in ice. This section is just upstream from where my photos usually are taken.

The building is a school on Brookline Avenue.

This bridge is where the river goes under the little road that cuts from the Jamacaway to Brookline Ave, where Brookline Ice and Coal is.

I'm very fond of this little white pine trying to make a living in a gap in the mortar of one of Olmsted's bridges.

This is the view downstream, from up on that bridge.

On the path next to the river the only color is on the people jogging by.
