Muddy River 04/12/09, 12 noon.

Just upstream from where I take most of these pictures, cormorants perch along Leverett Pond.

Upstream from Leverett Pond the Muddy is considerably less muddy.

A couple years ago there was a reconstruction project which, among other things, put biodegradable booms up to keep the bank from eroding. Now these booms have a thick growth of moss.

And mushrooms!

Up on the park side: three rocks.

In the spring further upstream, the rocks are covered in warm mossy coats.

A constant flow of cold but nourishing spring water!

Alexis photographs some skunk cabbage.

I've seen cormorants in Jamaica Pond several times, but they seem to always know when I'm looking at them and quickly dive into the water.

What sort of mushrooms are those?

Now is the time to get this project done. Please call Brookline Town Meeting Members and those of the Advisory Committee.
