Urban Nature Pictures 3/30: yes we have more flooding

The Longwood stop on the D trolley line. A lot of people walk along the Muddy River to get to this stop. Today they had some obstacles.

People on their way to the trolley stop had to go a ways around the usual path.

Red maples are fairly flood-tolerant. "Red maple swamps" are a characteristic ecosystem of Massachusetts.

These kids had to get going fast to make it all the way under the tunnel without getting bogged down.

The oil-catching booms caught some oil, and lots of other stuff.

Who likes the rain? THE MOSS likes the rain!!

At the far end of the Riverway, the six foot culvert was completely covered. Eventually it's going to be replaced with a 24 foot culvert, which should alleviate flooding in the future. For now, the oil is collecting on one bank.

The water hasn't made it to the road yet, but here's one of the closest places.

Finally: an overhead view from Longwood Ave. The walking paths are completely submerged.

I saw you early this evening as I was heading home - a rare ride home took me right by the river and I spotted you and the dogs. If it weren't for the dogs, you'd have gone unnoticed!
