Back to Easter Island!

I think it's time to look at Easter Island again.

This is Ahu Huri A Urenga. I'll quote the description from the McLaughlin book: "One of few inland ahu, Huri A Urenga is unique for other reasons as well: For one thing, the statue has 4 hands rather than 2, which means it was re-carved at some point. For another thing, the moai faces the Winter solstice sunrise and 11 solstice and equinox cupules in the platform have been discovered. As archaeo-astronomer William Liller has said of Huri A Urenga, it ranks 'as one of the best-authenticated pre-historic observatories in the world. Its many solar sight lines and pointing devices, its use as an important land marker, and perhaps even its name all provide strong evidence that it was planned and built as an observing station.'"
(p136)
[I haven't figured out what the name means in the McLaughlin book, or by going through "Speak Rapanui!" which I just discovered is coauthored by William Liller.]
