Alexis has a fortifying swig of ginger beer. I believe I bought her this six pack early in 2010, being a good husband who likes to get things his wife enjoys. I'm amazed how slowly she worked her way through them. If I am aware of ready-to-eat food/drink in the vicinity, it is not safe. (I think I actually drank one of the ginger beers, even though it's too gingery for me.) She probably would have taken another year to drink that last bottle if a) she didn't have a cold and b) we weren't trying to get rid of stuff in order to move.

I love that stuff it is so tasty! Ready to eat food doesn't last long around me either, Jef.

Heh. I had to make it clear to my husband that just because I don't snarf something down in five seconds the way he does, that doesn't mean I don't want it or I'm not planning to eat it!

So now conversations on the subject go kind of like this:
Pirate, reaching fork towards my plate: "Hey, are you going to eat tha—"
Lexi, frowning: *Grrrrrrrrrrr.*
Pirate, moving fork away from my plate quickly: "I'll take that as a 'yes'."

Really! I like to savor things and I have to be in the right mood for them! If I buy a bag of fancy cookies, I want those fancy cookies to actually be there when I get the urge to have one! It may be days or even weeks between urges, but they had better be there.

Unfortunately, that was never understood by my ex, so I had to actually hide things I wanted to last more than a day. Seriously. He would go through a whole bag of any sweet be brought home in a day, usually. It was terrible! :p

That's the dynamic in our house, at least before I gave up sweets this year. I just have no self-control around ready-to-eat food. In my defense, she'll also "savor" something by keeping it around until it goes bad, too. She always seems to remember she bought something right after I go ahead and eat the last one, even if it's been MONTHS.
