3:00 Snapshot #721

Ostrich shed.

I was in a happy celebratory mood last night, roasting old Japanese knotweed on our new fire pit, drinking craft beer, and singing songs by the light of the full "supermoon." On some unconscious level I must have been aware that it was Vernal Equinox, or nearly so. We spent the day doing glorious yard work, raking, gouging out knotweed, trimming an unruly Japanese barberry plant down to nub. Perhaps the novelty of stewarding our land will wear off some day, but not one this crisp first day of spring.

It took years before mowing my lawn became a chore. And it's still sort of fun.

May the joy never wear off. Caring for the land is a wonderful thing.
