It's rare that I'm in full view of a zoo animal when the snapshot alarm goes off. That actually indicates that I'm running late that day. But it makes for a more interesting snapshot, at least in the short term. 20 years from now the little details in the more boring pictures will be more interesting than this beautiful Baird's tapir. Or maybe not, it's a very nice looking tapir.

For a second I thought this was in the yard at your house! Nice Tapir. Are they approachable?

A yard tapir might be good for weed control, but we don't have a big enough water feature for one. Our tapirs are pretty calm, and get regular training sessions.

When I was a kidling, I saw my first live tapir in a carnival freak show, where it was labeled as a wonder of nature with the body of a pig and the head of an anteater or some such. Being a little smartass, I immediately identified it as a tapir. "Get outa here, kid, ya bother me."

I had a similar experience with a wallaby being advertised as a kangaroo....

I've never seen one in rl. They look so soft and velvety.
