Lab work. The lab and the food prep room are separated by a sliding door, which is open most of the time. One of the machines in the lab (ironically or not: an ultra low -80 degree freezer) generates a lot of heat, and there is an air conditioner in the food prep room.
Not ironically. From what I remember from the basic physics class I took about 30 years ago, the cold in the freezer is generated by pushing the heat inside the unit to the outside, because heat flows from hot to cold and not the other way around.
