Tightening the spam screw

Sorry, until further notice I'm theoretically screening all comments. Rest assured I will unscreen any legitimate comments (even if you call me a filthy cat-eating novelty music fan) as soon as I can. Supposedly my settings already screened any anonymous comments, but that was clearly not the case. Hopefully this idiotic micromanaging will be over soon.

Spamming has gone crazy. I checked the statistics for the spam filters on my (non-LJ) blog, and it says that there were *eighteen times* as many spam comments as there were legitimate comments. Fortunately, the Akismet spam filter is really good. It almost never misses a spam, and I'm not sure it *ever* mistakenly flagged a real comment as spam.

An unexpected positive side effect of the new controls is that now everyone knows for sure that I've read their comments. Nice pseudoscorpion icon!
