I get a lot of joy from my fire pit. It's been nice to get in extra fire time this winter, what with the yard not being covered in 4 feet of snow like last year.

Maggie patrols the yard, ever vigilant for cats.

I read or was told that at one time early in American history it was determined that cats could not be owned. I don't know if this was because of their nature or some other excuse but I have been owned by but never really been the owner of a cat.

Having said that, I do sympathize with dog owners and the need for neighbours to keep cats inside. (We have a smelly boy cat who drives us nuts.)

Many cats are total Nazis when it comes to dogs. They hate them so much they would gladly die just trying to bug them.

Ive been thinking about getting one, but I'm afraid it would create a dead patch in my tiny yard. Does yours kill the grass underneath? Do you have to use it on a stone patio? My fantasy is that I could have a fire, then then next morning move the cool pit off the lawn and let the grass grow.

I think any object that you keep in the same place in your yard will kill the grass underneath by shading it out. I don't think the heat kills grass, I have to use the weed trimmer to cut the long grass that grows under the fire pit.
