Sometimes I wish I was a monomaniac, obsessed with only one thing. Sometimes you have to pretend to be a monomaniac for the sake of a project. It would be cool to post only pictures of red-tailed hawks wherever I found them, challenging myself to make every photo interesting in some way. I'm happy to photograph them whenever I find them, and integrate them into my blog as it is.

I hear ya... though they're less common here. They were practically lousy when we were in Arkansas; I saw dozens.

People don't tend to really care about red-tails here... it's all about the bald eagles. I admit that in my youth, I was lured in by the popularity and mystique of the bald eagle, but now find them overglorified, uninteresting birds... red-tailed hawks are much more interesting to watch and (anthropomorphic projection ahead) without pretense. Soar, ye red-tail; let your majesty precede you!

I used to count red-tails circling the sky riding in the passenger seat on the ride from my mom's house to my dad's house every other weekend. There was usually about 5-10 in a hour's drive.
