100 More Species #13: Agreeable tiger moth

Agreeable tiger moth Spilosoma congrua
Agreeable, no?

The caterpillar of this moth feeds on dandelion and plantain. It's a wonder it isn't even more common in the city and suburbs.

These two seem to agree. Smaller male (with larger, pheromone-gathering antennae) on right, female on left.

Kind of reminds me of my sister's wedding dress. (Which was lovely.)

Do you think it's named agreeable because they like to sit on your finger without flying away?

I wondered about this, and the scientific name is close to the common name, which makes me suspect that the common name is a translation of the scientific name, without any real meaning.
