My birthday present for myself arrived this week, just in time! I certified our property as a National Wildlife Federation "Certified Wildlife Habitat."
I'd do the certified wildlife thang, because my yard is a sanctuary for wildlife too. But my neighbors are already pissed at me now that a fox has moved into my yard/their street. Next they'll tell me I can't feed the birds in my yard because foxes and raccoons are attracted to THAT. (And to the bunnies and mice and voles, etc., that come for that too.)
I'm interested to know what critters/wildlife you're habitating. :-)
I was wondering what that certification accomplishes and whether it would make it harder later to sell our house. My yard fits all the criteria (only if you count the standing water, which I have mixed feelings about because of mosquitoes) but I'm unclear on what's in it for me, other than helping NWF meet their goal of one million certified habitats.
Right now I guess I'm figuring that the critters get the benefit without me getting the clout.
Neato! What did you name your property? I considered going with "The Meadows" from "So I Married an Axe Murderer", but decided nobody would get the joke and we would just look pretentious.
