Monarch Danaus plexippus

For a while there I was interested in having our yard designated as a certified monarch waystation. We only have one bunch of milkweed--the kind with orange flowers, and we have altogether too much black swallow-wort. Still the monarchs come, they really like the butterfly bush, and sunny afternoons they are the third largest animal in the yard after me and the dogs. I'm kind of surprised to see them still visiting in October. The monarch was 365 urban species #199.

I've been stunned by the number of monarchs I've seen recently. Are there more, or have I just not been paying attention in the past.

I just went through and tagged all my monarch photos, including one carcase. Some better than others: http://www.flickr.com/photos/roseee/tags/monarch/

I don't know if there are more. I saw more this year too, but I've been blaming everything on last year's mild winter.
