On Thanksgiving day, Alexis and I picked up our friends in Somerville and took them to our other friend's house in Salem. Charlie and Turtle were also in attendance.

What started as a pleasant time with fondue and dogs and Dave Atell's tv show went a little grim for me. Through a combination of ill-advised indulgences I quickly found myself unwell. We left earlier than we would have liked to, Alexis taking over the driving duty. Unfortunately she didn't notice that I'd used the parking brake and I was too distracted by my ordeal to remember to tell her. After a few miles the brakes went out completely and good driving and a clear head prevented catastrophe.

Our friends used the magic of devices with apps to locate a ride home for themselves, and we let the tow truck take my car away. We huddled in a cold parking lot somewhere in Revere until Alex (who was at our house watching Maggie and Jim) came and rescued us. I'm still without my car until it gets looked at on Monday. I spent a good portion of Friday trying to figure out where it was, since no one was answering phones and AAA had towed it to a lot across the way from where we asked them to so when Alexis went to look for it she couldn't find it.

I'd kind of like a do-over for Thanksgiving, but our Salem friends host a holiday party in a few weeks, so that will have to suffice. Pictures on facebook show people enjoying Thanksgiving despite me, and I look peaceful, curled up with dogs.

I never drive out of town on holidays anymore. Nothing good comes of it. Sorry you had so much annoyance. Hope your next day off is better.

That's a good policy. I stay put on New Years and St Patricks day--I'd do the same for xmas if I could. Thanksgiving has never been a problem before; many wonderful years of going to Salem until this year's issues.

Thanks! All good, except for the deep lasting shame. :)
