Three O'Clock happened and I was in the Stop and Shop parking lot--there was nothing interesting in any direction except for people, and I already looked like a freak with my new haircut. Then I looked in this window and couldn't believe my eyes. Haven't seen working payphones in years. This S&S happens to be an important bus stop, too, so I can see the value of the phones.

Turtle was visited by some potential owners yesterday, and if everything goes well with the home visit etc., he'll be leaving us soon.

Taking our hearts with him.

I was struck by that, too. Usually the dogs get all my attention, but you look *really* happy.
You've had a lot of wonderful fosters, but Turtle's story is exceptional!

I LOVE payphones and HATE cell phones. Long live the Stop & Shop payphones!

Last time I was in your jurisdiction, I ran a 5K between Central and Porter Squayahs, and a Somerville friend had promised to collect me from the finish so I could meet up with her and family/friends, shower after the race, and get a ride back to my car. My overphoto'd phone died as I was dialing her number. (Dial. Heh.) Fortunately, there was a working pay phone in the T station next to the finish line bar, and just as fortunately, I could still remember the 10 digits I'd almost just dialed (and had nowhere else), and all was well.

I fear for these friends, seeing things like this:

First they came for the pay phones, but I had a cell, so I said nothing....

I always wonder: if you're their first experience of a home, do they have trouble adjusting to strangers? Do they feel abandoned by their "real" family? Of course I hope not, and I'm probably projecting.

Part of the fostering process is to introduce them to as many different kinds of people as possible, as much as possible. One of the great things about Turtle is that he never minded being handed over to someone else, like the times he had to go the vet he happily walked off with a new person holding his leash.

Good to know. Relieved. I have a LOT to learn about dogs. (Like HOW to get the teeny less than 3 lb Min Pin breeder dumped rescue I just adopted to use the peepads and NOT the floor. :-/) I'm a work in progress.

housetraining: supervise 100% (actual eyes on the dog), crate or contain when you can't.
make sure any long term confinement area has bed, food, water, and pee pads. short term confinement (crate) should be only big enough for her to stand up and turn around. if she eliminates in the crate more than once, take the bedding out so waste is not absorbed.
take her outside every 20m at first. stand there and be boring, reward like crazy when she eliminates outside. use baby gates and doors to confine the animal into an area of the house where you're able to observe.

i housetrained jim. he was 4lbs when i got him. it was december. i hate pee pads so much, you end up training the dog twice. if you want the dog to use an indoor toilet, train with a litterbox and not pee pads.

THANK YOU very much for the most needed and welcome advice. The original foster lady from Broken Tail Rescue hasn't responded to my request for her advice on what worked when she had Mina (dog's name keeps morphing) for 4 days before I got her. I very much appreciate the help!

i vote him "most likely to get stolen" because he happily goes to anyone. when i've taken him to the vet (oh, so many times), he follows whoever has his leash and doesn't look back.

socialization is absolutely 100% critical and there should be no "strangers."
