I know most of the animals in the Tropical Forest pretty well but this off-exhibit python (species? ball?) is a stranger to me.

Dollars to donuts it's a ball python. About 5' long max, can go 2 years without eating.

Yeah, that's what makes me unsure, this guy has gotta be 5 feet or close to it--seems big for a ball.

It is a Ball Python

I used to have one, so I know them very well. Males grow to about 4 - 5 feet, females can grow to 6+ because well, they have to produce eggs. Mostly nocturnal, but tend to have high cholesterol issues, so mice only. Mine was captive bred and handheld from birth (I got it when it was weaned off of the yolk as they call it.)

They actually make wonderful pet snakes as they never get to big to handle, and they are the least aggressive of all the pythons... Squeezer Agustus loved to hang out curled up under my shirt on my chest with just his head popped out. (Mommy was warm and toasty)
