Often when I tell people I'm from Connecticut (and I avoid doing so), they ask me "Near New Haven?" I get perverse joy from saying, "No, opposite end of the state. I've never been to New Haven."

Other than the honorable Yale, New Haven is a bleak wasteland - or at least it was when I went there when I was in high school back in prehistoric days.
