3:00 snapshot #1246: nice pictures--first day with the new camera? well, yes.
As luck would have it, when it was time to take yesterday's snapshot I was hanging out of my second story window (trying to fix a loose piece of siding that yellow jackets nested under last year) and I had my new camera with me.
I find it appropriate that Image Number 0001 (according to some agreement between my camera and my computer) is Charlie, looking at me as if to say "You asked me if I wanted a ride in the car, I signaled that I did, why are you sitting there pointing that thing at me instead?"
Testing the close focus ability of the new camera on some Sedum, some of the only green stuff braving the cold spring lawn.
I took Charlie and the new camera to the Stony Brook Reservation. The camera focused on the background instead of on these suspiciously testicular oak apples.
Up on a ridge I discovered this man putting rocks on top of other rocks, and his associated dog. Camera allows for the appearance of photographing one thing while including other things that look out of frame. I think this guy was too wrapped up in rockbalancing to care, honestly.
I took Charlie to the pond (Turtle Pond) but we agreed it was too cold for swimming.
This is a very common lichen whose name was given to me during one of the Dedham bioblitzes, but I've misplaced it. I'll come back to this at some point. Anyone have the name handy?
How about a weird backlit selfie, camera at arms length below my head?
Butts both dog and human! This human had one on-leash dog and two off-leash dogs. One of these was a chow mix that approached us with a lowered head (threatening posture). I appreciate that walking three dogs on leashes is challenging, but I was still annoyed.
A little bit of stream below conduit. Wait a minute, isn't this a waterproof camera?
Yes indeed, so here is the first partially submerged photo. Alexis scolded me that if she had just received a waterproof camera, she would have shot tons of underwater pics! In my defense, there's not much very interesting in the water that I saw, and it's cold.
This is the water in question, closer to the road.
Alexis tried the camera out and captured this charming portrait.
And also this one of Maggie. She looks a bit better than I do.

The colours of the rock in the one "too cold" are beautiful.
