It was a small but engaged and enthusiastic group last Sunday! They asked some great questions and seemed to be into it. I usually avoid taking a snapshot of the class, out of respect for their privacy, but we were just walking between things and it seemed like it was okay this time.

Before the class I walked around looking for mushrooms--it had been extremely dry, and I wanted to make sure we were going to find some! I passed this guy on the path and we went our separate ways.

Fortunately we found a few good fresh Dryad's Saddles, this one hoarding a few drops of moisture.

Then one of the class participants noticed these coprinoid mushrooms! These are very similar in size and habitat to mica caps, but they have those weird scales on their caps.
Here's that typical mica cap habitat: a rotten stump.

One of the class participants noticed that some of the caps didn't have the scales on them. I noticed some similar mushrooms posted on a mushroom identification facebook group. I think I'll throw it to them to see if anyone's figured this one out.
