This is Wub, a female ostrich. Her eye looks like that because her nictitating membrane (third eyelid) has closed while she's pecking.

BIrds do that. :-) I don't think I've ever gotten a clear view of the inside of an ostrich's mouth before. Pretty cool. I like the green stripy bit.... And I'd never seen an ostrich tongue either.

(I think I meant that the picture was a bit scary.)
