Hey everyone! Since I've used up my LJ scrapbook storage, and lost my photo manipulating software, I have less control over the size of my photos. I could make an effort to ensmallen them somehow, if it's annoying to see giant pictures on your friends' page. I'm not even sure if they aren't so big that they throw off the dimensions of the page for you.

What say you? Big pictures okay, or should I find a way to squink them down a little?

Flickr is useful for this.

Have you considered Flickr, or another photo-hosting site?

The set of spiderwort pictures weren't too big for me. You might consider using a cut tag if you have lots of images. If you're interested in free photo-editing software, there are a few good options with varying levels of complexity, including Picasa, Gimp, and Irfanview (shareware free for non-commercial use).

I like the big pics. The ones you've been posting haven't blown out my friends list... but I am one voice amongst many and am happy to go with whatever.

New person here! How d'you do?

I'm really enjoying your pics - I'm fine with big ones, but perhaps put them behind a cut tag. That would solve the "blowing up the friends page" problem.

Ahoy! Better, thanks.

Are they blowing up your friends page? My general rule is if the post has more than 3 pics to put all but the first behind a cut. I used to put just the first before the cut, but I came to believe that no one really cared, and that I could get away with more. Now with the bigguns I'm not sure.

the spiderwort pictures are about perfect to me, I can see them very clearly :) I approve, but I also have a lot of screen real estate :)

Irfanview is free, uses great jpeg algorithms, is not nagware, is simple to use and will allow you to crop, resize, sharpen and play with contrast and colour.

Flickr is free and for free will now allow you to store large files, more pictures than you'll take in your life and gives you a choice of sizes to display on your blog. I go for the "640 pixels" size.

I upload pictures from my camera to my laptop (just Windows Photo Gallery, nothing fancy). When I upload pictures from my laptop to lj, a window pops up with a thumbnail of the photo, and in the lower right hand corner, next to the "add to post" button, is a small "Resize" drop-down menu. 600 is a nice size that no one complains about. Do you not get this set of choices when you upload a picture to lj?

Yes, I do get that option, or I should say I did up until earlier today when I instead got the error message that I had used up all my scrapbook space (and that I could buy more if I wanted).
